I visited him.

My thoughts were roaming the night as I gripped onto my steering wheel and let the easy melody of my favorite Matt Kearney song fill the car. I was driving past the lake (which I will be taking pictures of soon to show all of you) that plays a loving, special part in my story when something inside me told me to stop. I parked the car on the curb of the road, with the feeling still tugging at me inside.

I sat on the vintage green bench placed right where the large bulky rocks rise and fall strongly. My previous dream came to mind, only now the wind was picking up, rustling the leaves on the cracked sidewalk and the moon was full, but nowhere near as large and orange as in my dream. The sky was pitch black dressed with tiny white specks, but I could still picture the hazy red foam covering the sky as if it were there, curling itself around me.

I slipped off my sandals and walked through the mushy gray sand to where I remember him standing, staring off into the vast blackness. My toes curled under the layers of cold sand and I stared out placing my hands in my pockets just as he did. I wondered what he felt when he stared out onto the water, and if his fingers fiddled with the keys in his pocket or were they still. How many times did he blink? Was his jaw relaxed or was this beautiful view so powerful he slightly clenched it?

The water was still and appeared as a mirror with rays of light stretching across in endless time.

I closed my eyes and whispered his name. Taking in deep breaths, picturing him here with me.
I replayed my dream, watching him stand exactly where I was standing now, and I felt insanely close to him, so close it was unreal. The wind continued to pick up and I felt detached from this world, I felt like he was a part of me and I was a part of him.

It was a sensational experience, feeling him there, replaying the glimpse I got of him in my dream over and over again, begging for it to never fade.

As I slipped on my sandals again, I looked back one last time and said hello, instead of good-bye, because this is only the beginning for him and I.

For Drake and I.

How about you? Have you ever visited a place in your story and felt your character there with you? Was it a remarkable feeling or was it frightening? Tell me, I would love to hear your experience.

I love that you were able to experience this! I've never done the same. I have been to the places my ms is set in, but I have not been back since I started writing the story.
I'm going to have to go, your post has me itching to try!

I haven't experienced that, but I do enjoy seeing something that reminds me of my character. Great post!

That was beautiful! I have experienced this to some degree but not as immersively as you!

Awesome!

I visited Deir el Bahri a few years ago, Hatshepsut's massive mortuary temple near the Valley of the Kings. It was awesome to be somewhere she walked, to see the things she saw.

I may have cried.

Awesome post!

Love this post and your writing style. I feel my characters with me EVERY day, but usually they're more in my head (babbling and talking way too much). But, sometimes, whenever I see a car--one that my MC has-- I find myself looking for him. Crazy, I know. I'm the one who made him up, after all. LOL. : )

Somewhat. Not as alive as yours, except in my dreams. I love your experience with him. Mesmerizing!
