He visited me in my dreams.

Before sleep overtakes me I whisper for dreams that will take me away into the world of my WIP, where I can see my MC. Actually see him and experience the life that I am currently creating with him.

Many mornings I had awoken and tried to remember my dreams but I had come up blank. Not a single one that I remembered contained him or my special world. I was disappointed and felt very alone but something inside of me told me not to give up. I am a big believer in the impossible and I tend to fight whatever fights against me. So I couldn't stop wishing, it is not my nature.

I crawled into bed last night and I said my wish, thinking what the heck? What do I have to lose?

I saw him clearly, so incredibly vivid. He was standing by the lake that plays such a huge role in my story, staring out into a blood red night sky. The moon was unrealistically large and tinted orange from the red smoky haze. He didn't notice me but I noticed him. His coal gray eyes were wondrous and lost as he stared out at the black water. I could feel his presence, so real, so beautiful.

He had his hands in his pockets and his hair never moved for there was no wind. Everything was completely still. I didn't say anything and he didn't either. It was a silence well appreciated and loved.

I woke up and cried. The feeling after seeing him was indescribable and so unreal. I knew then that I have to finish this story for him. He has been in my mind all day, his voice clearer than ever. The crazy part is that I feel like he felt my presence. Even though we were silent, I have this hunch he felt me there and that he was just as happy and speechless as I was.

It was a great dream, one I will never forget. Hopefully he will visit me in my dreams again. I will wait for him every night.

What about you? Have you ever had a dream with your characters where they left you in awe from how real they seemed? Do you ever wish to dream about them?

Goodnight. May you all dream about wondrous possibilities, for nothing is impossible.

oh wow, no I've never dreamed of my characters. I'm so jealous of you.

I've dreamed about the stupid boy who broke my heart and I've had dreams that inspired stories but I've never had a vivid image of any character. amazing.

I am sooooo jealous!

My dreams tend to be a hodgepodge of whatever happened that day. I just finished reading The Poisonwood Bible and preparing final exams for my students is about to kill me. So my dream last night? I was trapped in Africa with my wild & unruly students.

I would love to have a dream set in Hatshepsut's ancient Egypt. I came close once, but it wasn't quite the right time period.

I had something like that happen to me. It was bizarre and at the same time the most wondrous thing that has ever happened to me. When I think about my characters I think about them coming to me and giving me a memory of the day, like a movie to watch or something like that anyway. In the dream I was following around all my main characters, including one I'd barely written, with a clipboard and I was writing down everything for my book. lol I'd love another dream like that. It was about a year and a half ago now, I guess. *sigh*

Absolutely cool dream and great photo, too. I believe you can ask for dreams, and I have awakened to know I was dreaming of my characters but then it fades. I don't think it matters, though, because it's there in the subconscious.

Once, it was amazing. *sigh* The memory has faded over time, though. I should have written it down.

Another gorgeous picture! How wonderful to be so in tune with your a character. My characters feel alive to me, but I've never dreamed about them. Maybe I need to immerse myself in my writing a little more. Your MC sounds amazing. Can't wait to be introduced to him.

I've never dreamed about my characters either (though I have dreamed about characters in books I read--maybe I'll dream about yours someday :).

When I wrote my first novel many of the characters with with me ALL the time. And I mean vividly. I remember being wide awake at 3am and begging them to disappear for awhile so I could get some sleep. I literally felt like 5 or 6 people were standing around my bed talking out loud so THEIR next part of the story could be heard. But heard they were. The story is finished. :)

I can relate. I'm currently reading an amazing book with vivid, beautiful scenery and when I fell asleep, I entered its world. It was so beautiful. It's happened to me with my own MC, just not as often as I'd like. Good dream, Victoria! Hope you dream of him again! :)

I love dreaming about my characters. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's total magic! Very exciting. Your descriptions were so moving, as well.

By the way, I followed you here from Angie's blog. Congrats on your award!

First time on your blog ever today. Wow Victoria. I've got to step up my game. ; )
I can see scenes played out in my mind like a movie and I try to capture everything in my writing- you must be completely immersed in your world to be dreaming about it.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your posts!
